Till what stage in career does one need to be technical. being technical requires lot of dedication, hands-on and constant learning phase.Being technical means while managing the project means that the Project manager does not depend on his technical lead to know the technical details of the project. This will also help the manager to actually understand the actual work that is being carried out by the team. It will be easy for him to rate the performance of his team without being dependent on someone else for this. This will also do away with the mere data and metrics aggregation job of a project manager.

have grown under people who are very technical even after they have reached the top in their careers and they have been my inspiration. But as I said this requires lot of hard work and dedication from self.
